What, who, where is Carriacou?
Carriacou is a small island in the Eastern Caribbean. It is 13 sq miles in total and has a population of around 7,000 people. Some say that if all the ‘Kayaks’ overseas came back to Carriacou at once the island would sink!. Everywhere you go you will find a ‘Kayak’ (someone from Carriacou). They have wanderlust in their blood but they always return home to their beautiful island.
Carriacou is part of the tri-island state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. It is one of the last unspoilt, uncommercialised true West Indian islands. No big hotels or casinos on Carriacou. No big supermarkets, just mom and pop stores, although there is now a fabulous deli with everyones favourite deli meats and cheeses and freshly baked baguettes with daily sandwiches and cakes to die for. Check out Patty’s Deli for more information.
Carriacou has fabulous beaches and secluded cays with some of the best snorkelling and diving in the Eastern Caribbean. The island is a short speedboat ride away from the famous Tobago Cays and the other islands in The Grenadines (Union Island, Mayreau, Canouan, Mustique, Bequia).
